ELEMENTARY PROGRAM

During the elementary years, children are seeking to understand the world and their place in it. Maria Montessori’s "Cosmic Curriculum"—the fulcrum of the elementary program—is designed to guide children through an exploration and assimilation of Earth, past and present. The areas of curriculum are woven together to facilitate an integrated educational experience tailored to the needs of the student. In all of their studies, children move from the research of concrete objects to a more abstract, generalized knowledge of nature and society. Practical life skills are expanded to include yoga, cooking, gardening, and community service.

The curriculum and rate of learning are tailored to the individual student, and emphasis is placed on the fostering of academic and social responsibility within an open environment. Students work in conjunction with the teacher to develop a lesson plan. Each student’s academic education is detailed in an IEP (individualized education plan). The elementary program provides students with the necessary skills to teach themselves about the world around them. Curriculum Areas: Language, Mathematics, Biology, Geography, Physical Science, History, Art, Dance, Physical Education, Spanish, and Music.
